*SHELLEY PARK Elan 12, Early 30's Maccaferri Style Design with D Shaped Soundhole, 640mm Scale Length, 12 frets clear of the body. Shelley says "The design of the Modèle Elan is based on the earliest models created by the Selmer Company under the direction of Mario Maccaferri. This instrument utilizes a short scale length in combination with a 12 fret neck join and the 'grande bouche' D-shaped soundhole. Tonally, this instrument offers a rich, warm sound with complimentary overtones that are often described as being similar to a classical guitar. Typically this instrument has been regarded as the rhythm guitar in Gypsy Jazz as its percussive punch offers a solid underpinning for soloists. While some players may find its 12 frets limiting, there should be no mistaking its capabilities as a lead instrument
